Plunge

PLUNGE takes a venue that will have the world watching it in 2018 and invites audiences to look at it anew through the power of story and image.  PLUNGE is a multi-artform performance at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre from 30 August to 2 September that delves into competition, the pressures internal and external on athletes and our responses to profound change.

Take the plunge for a spectacular and moving night at the theatre!

There are only 4 shows and to ensure as many people as possible see it, the tickets have been capped at $20.  To book or find out more please visit https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/plunge-by-kate-shearer-tickets-34877080286?aff=es2

Level Up: Youth arts incubator for makers, doers and dreamers

The City of Gold Coast’s youth arts incubator program Level Up aims to engage local emerging young artists transitioning from school, work or tertiary studies to a career in the creative industries sector on the Gold Coast.

It will provide a unique opportunity for emerging young artists to take their arts practice to the next level and be a part of the city’s vibrant cultural landscape.

This round of Level Up will be a three month arts residency from September to early December. The residency includes artist fee, studio space, business arts tuition and industry experience that will support creative pursuits and sustainable arts practice.

It will be offered to five local artists between the ages of 18 to 25.

Southport Upgrades in the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games

The Broadwater Parklands will host the marathon, aquatics and triathlon events as part of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The City of Gold Coast are planning a number of infrastructure upgrades along key corridors in Southport to support spectators and workforce walking and cycling to these events. For information on these upgrades and locations that will be effected, please click here.

Chinatown Markets Go Green

As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce the amount of waste generated by the Chinatown Street Markets, single use bottled water will no longer be sold.  Instead, free water refills will be available to people that bring their own water bottles, and water bubblers for anyone that wants a drink from the water refill station.

This is just one of a number of initiatives designed to reduce the environmental impact of the Markets.  Did you know all stallholders are required to use biodegradable packaging and any food not sold at the event is donated to Rosies to be distributed to the Gold Coast’s needy.

So come along, try the selection of delicious cuisines from across Asia and enjoy the multicultural entertainment and live music.

Bundall Road Upgrades

To increase the existing and future capacity of the state controlled road network on the Gold Coast the Department of Transport and Main Roads is upgrading Southport-Burleigh Road to create 3 traffic lanes in each direction along Southport-Burleigh Road from North Street in Southport to just south of the intersection of Rudd Street in Broadbeach Waters. This section of Southport-Burleigh Road is known locally as High Street, Ferry Road, Bundall Road and Bermuda Street.

This work is expected to take a few years to complete.  Please click here for more information on this project.
